One week earlier ... a dead body appeared in the middle of Piazza del Campo, Siena.
The killers impaled the victim with a flagpole - La Contrada del Leocorno; inside his jacket - old transit papers for a boat that sailed from Naples to New York in 1907!

The cryptic clues hint at a British link - the 'Lion and the Unicorn'. But before he has the chance to investigate further, Meroni is dodging bullets and forced to flee Rome.
Ignorance is a curse.
Contessa Sofia Casaldi is found dead in her bath in the Presidential Suite of the Monti Palace Hotel.
Distraught at the recent death of her only daughter she appears to have taken her own life.
On the bathroom mirror, a message scrawled in blood:
‘Nothing can be loved …’
The Contessa entered the hotel with a priest.
As the body count rises, Meroni hunts a serial killer.
Is this the will of God or the work of the devil?
